Guidelines
One of the parties requesting a wedding must be a baptized, practicing Catholic
currently registered in a parish. Any previous marriages by either the Catholic or
Non-Catholic must already be annulled or the proper paperwork finalized.
There is a six-month Catholic requirement for marriage preparation. This
preparation may be completed in your own parish or through one of the programs
recommend by the Cathedral staff. Documentation of your completed marriage
preparation program must be forwarded to the Cathedral before your wedding file
can be completed.
It is at an introductory meeting with the staff that you will be able to schedule your
wedding date. The Provincial Guidelines adopted by the Bishops of the State of
Michigan, 1999, states that we are not able to hold a wedding date or schedule a
wedding date until the engaged couple has been verified as being free to marry in
the Catholic Church. This takes place at the introductory meeting with the
Cathedral staff. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.
Before the introductory meeting can be scheduled, you must complete the
preliminary wedding registration form. There is also a permission form letter for
your parish priest to complete. Catholics are required to submit a newly issued
baptismal record and non-Catholics are required to submit a photocopy of their
original baptismal record. Once your registration form, the priest’s permission
form letter, and the baptismal records are received, your file will be forwarded to the
Cathedral staff. They will call you within a week to schedule your introductory
meeting.
The Cathedral’s ceremony times on Fridays are 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
The Saturday ceremony times are 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm.
The use of alcohol is not permitted by any member of the bridal party before the
rehearsal or the wedding. No food or alcohol is allowed in the Bride’s Dressing
Room. Recreational drugs are prohibited at all times. If these rules are violated,
the wedding will not take place. The Cathedral is a non-smoking facility. It is your
responsibility to inform all members of your wedding party about the rules.
We can provide either a priest or deacon to preside over your ceremony. If you
prefer to provide your own priest, you must notify us in writing at least six months in
advance of your wedding date and provide the priest’s name, parish and contact
information.
